A single mature open grown Oak growing in
the front garden of 41 Barnton Avenue South. The large diameter trunk supports
a spreading crown of excellent shape and form. The tree is estimated to
be 250 years old and is probably a remnant of the original Barnton
Estate laid out by the Ramsay family in the early nineteenth century.
The tree is known locally as the Barnton Gate Oak.
